Overview

Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., a multi-office national firm, has an immediate opening for a Paralegal position for our Orlando, FL Office. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package offered.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Paralegal performs a variety of complex duties with limited supervision. The individual in this role primarily supports attorneys with civil defense litigation matters in the areas of premises liability and motor vehicle accidents.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and analyzes documentary evidence including contracts, records, reports, depositions, discovery, investigative and other documents, and summaries. Interpretation and preparation of chronologies and summaries as requested.
  • Gathers and analyzes research data, such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, and documents.
  • Assists attorney with preparing for trial by performing tasks such as organizing exhibits, preparing draft disclosures of witnesses and exhibits as well as drafting of responses to written discovery requests.
  • Under attorney direction drafts and prepares correspondence and other written documents as required including responses, reports, filings, pleadings, answers, motions, interrogatories, contracts, opinions, position papers, letters, etc. Research as to backgrounds of potential expert witnesses, including initial contact with same.
  • Prepares and handles tracking and disposition of subpoenas or other requests for information.
  • Ensures organization of files including maintenance and management. 
  • Monitors files and escalates issues requiring attorney involvement.  Performs timely handling of highly sensitive issues and materials related to case.
  • Communicates with clients, witnesses, and experts.
  • Maintains calendar for trial and discovery deadlines. Obtains trial settings, coordinates, and assists in preparation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of prior paralegal experience supporting defense litigators preferably in premises liability and motor vehicle accidents in a high-volume, fast-paced law firm environment.
  • Working knowledge of paralegal concepts, procedures, and practices. Knowledge of operations, practices, and procedures of civil litigation.
  • State and Federal Court filing including E-Filing experience required. Valid Notary Public preferred.
  • Knowledge of how to bill and record time.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, superior communication and organizational skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. 
  • Knowledge and application of legal research tools (Westlaw).
  • Solid analytical and drafting skills.
  • High School Diploma required. 

Physical Demands

This position is considered to be mostly sedentary and will require the employee to sit for extended periods of time. It will also require the employee to occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. They may engage in bending, stretching, reaching and other motions in the course of a working day. They will be engaged in using office equipment and computers. They may engage in lifting supplies and materials up to 20 pounds from time to time. While performing duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.

Working Conditions

This job is located primarily in an indoor office environment with varying noise levels. There may be varying degrees of temperature. The employee may be interrupted from time to time.
